Stainless steel 304 sheet coils are divided into three grades
Martensitic grade
Martensitic grade sheet coils are magnetic and can be heat treated
by quenching or tempering. Martensitic steels are not as corrosion
resistant as austenitic or ferritic grades, but their hardness is
the highest of all stainless steels
Ferritic grade
Ferritic stainless steel sheet coils are magnetic,
non-heat-treatable steels that contain chromium but no nickel. They
have good heat and corrosion resistance (especially seawater) and
good resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Their mechanical
properties are not as good as austenitic grades, but their
decorative properties are better
Austenitic grade
Austenitic stainless steel sheet coils are non-magnetic,
non-heat-treatable steels that are usually annealed and cold
worked. (Some tend to become slightly magnetic after cold working).
Austenitic steels have excellent corrosion and heat resistance and
good mechanical properties over a wide temperature range
